Blue heeler weight loss & blindness

Question
Hi There,
I have and 11 year old female blue heeler.  Within the last 2 months, she's lost about 15 lbs or so and we're feeding her 3 x a day.  Within the last month, she's lost her vision.  Do you think she was poisoned?  She is also drinking a ton of water, probably at least a gallon a day.  Do you have any ideas how we can help her???  I would be open to trying some natural remedies to help her.  It just seemed so sudden.  She does not show discomfort or pain.  I hate to see her this way, I love her alot.  If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Thank you,
Cherlyn Prisby

Answer
Canine Diabetes signs; diabetes in Blue Heeler dog ;

Hello Cherlyn,  I hate to say this but your Blue Heeler may have Diabetes.  Have you had the vet check her blood?  The vision loss and weight loss is a sign of Diabetes.  Also, the excessive water intake is also a sign of diabetes in a dog.
Please take her to the Vet for some testing.  She can live more years with proper insulin injections for her condition.  You can learn how to do the small needle injections.

Good luck
