Question
I have a 9 mo old female cocker. She was spayed about 3 months ago. About 2 weeks ago I noticed she was peeing in her crate at night...soon as I put her in it and constantly licking. Called the vet and he gave her a round of antibiotics. I noticed yesterday her licking more again. Looked and around the fold next to skin of her vagina was red. There is also a few little red spots on her belly. Maybe flea bites? Maybe yeast? I give them Comfortis for fleas. What can I do? I give her and my 1 yr old male cocker Opie and Dixie flax seed mixture for the skin and want to switch to Nupro and I feed them Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream with salmon. I also have a 9 yr old male who has had a total ear canal ablation. Done about 6 yrs ago. He has a constant infection...culture said staph and e coli. I try to keep the other 2 from licking it, but sometimes they do. Could that be it? Or am  being a over protectant Mom? She is my 1st female and I am not sure on some things. Help me please. I want the best for them. I lost my 13 yr old male cocker back in Sept to CHF. If I knew then what I know now about food etc, I might have had a few more months with him. Thank-you very much for your help.

Answer
Glad that I could help!  Keep me posted:
Cocker Spaniel with possible yeast infection:

Hello-  Sorry you lost your 13 yr old cocker spaniel to Congestive heart.
As for the Taste of the Wild, it is a good food but I do like others better.
If you can find Canidae grain-free dog food mix it with the Taste of the Wild -- Do a 50/50 mix.
Also, Wellness makes a food called Simple Solutions -  you may want to try that, too.

I am not telling you to come off of Taste of the wild, you can continue that Brand if you wish.
It is not one of my favorites.

Also, Please get your gal onto this supplement - NuVET Wafer - She needs just 1 per day - long term - it will help to keep away any bacteria and heals.  NuVET also helps to control yeast.
Call 1-800-474-7044 and ask for the $39.00 bottle ( 60 count) - GIVE Discount code 81098 for the 15% off.  NuVET is great for Allergy pets, too.
( They also make a larger bottle at 90 count )

YOUR boy with the ear infections should be on NuVET too!  I would give him (1 1/2) wafers per day / long term.

NEXT - give both your pets some Acdiophalus - give 1 of a 1-3 Billion CFUs per day for at least 60 days.  This will help with the possible overgrowth of yeast bacteria in the vaginal area and in the ears, too.

All my NuVET clients get FREE telephone help:  Call 1-803-424-2312 with updates and questions.
I am glad to help....
We can also talk about home -cooking recipes for your pets.  ( If you have the time to cook)

Please get some baby powder/ Corn Starch ( Johnson and Johnsons)-- place this on her vaginal area 2 x per day.  Wipe the area 1 x per day with Unscented Huggies baby wipes.

Ok, that's it for now!  Good luck and Keep me posted.
