Please Help! Open Wound

Yesterday we got our red and white Siberian Husky.  Still a pup we can tell.  Full grown though.  A friend of ours found him on the side of a highway that day actually.  Anyway, after he had been at our home for a while last night, we noticed a gash on his belly near his penis.  It's not TOO deep.  It looks as if barbed wire or something of that nature got him.  He's been licking it, which I've been letting him do because I've researched and it says dog saliva has antibodies in it (?).  I don't really have the money for an expensive vet visit at the moment.  What should I do?!  And if I have to go to the vet, are there any organizations that can help us out with paying the vet?  We've called the vets around here and none of them will do payment plans.  We're a 1 income family of 4 so we're not sure what to do at all.

Hi Autumn, Well I understand you want to avoid the vet if possible. You have limited finances right now...
OK, we can try a few things.
Wash the area with a little hydrogen peroxide and water... Do this 1 x per day.  After that, apply some Triple antibiotic ointment or Neosporin from the local Walmart or K-Mart.

Also, pick up some Garlic pills - in the Health and Beauty department- give your dog 2 garlic pills per day for 1 month.  This is low cost and a Natural antibiotic.  It may or may not help : but worth a try.

Also, a good dog food is a must.... buy WELLNESS or Innova or even the Merrick brand is good - all found at the local pet store.
