Question
QUESTION: Hello, again!
  I recently wrote to about a Beagle mix family member that has been on long term Vetalog as treatment for a seasonal allergy. She since has been tested for Cushing's and high liver counts were found, but the final results show negative for Cushing's, symptom's displayed were caused by long term steroids.
   The Doctor then took her off Vetalog, and started her on Dexametasone. Giving her more steroids didn't make sense to me, so I got copies of her test results, and we went for a second opinion. His recommendation: gradual steroid withdrawal over a period of 6 weeks (or more) weekly monitoring of her electrolytes to make sure her body is responding, and supplementing her diet with Denosyl (canine Sam-e) for liver support(he called it "fatty liver".)
   Right now, her NEW Doctor's main concern - and mine - is getting her safely off the steroids, and he is very open to any dietary or supplemental suggestions that may help her through.
   She is currently eating Eukanuba Venison and Potato. If a  home cooking offers better internal support, just call me "chef."
    Note: her allergies appear the last week of August and leave with the first killing frost...
    Thank-you for your suggestions and support, it's truely appreciated.

ANSWER: Denosyl ; cushing's ; beagle mix Vetalog;

Hi Billie;  The Denosyl is a very good product ( a little expensive)..  ( works well)
Would you like the recipe for liver disorder... ( and what were the food allergies)?
Let me know.

QUESTION: Hi, again! Yes, I'd really appreciate a recipe for liver support, and the Dr. doesn't believe this is a food allergy, but rather flea allergy dermatitis that is prominent during the "dog days" of August... maybe so immune support in her diet would help?

Answer
Hi - Recipe for Beagle with liver disease / poor enzyme values:
Yes - this is much better than some of the Commercial foods for pets with liver disease:

Yes - WE can call you doggy chef!
 WE have had great luck with this recipe:
Pass it by your vet: ( let the vet know you are home-cooking )

The Key is :

Frequent feedings of high quality simple carbohydrates such as white rice and potatos.
(Don't worry about veggies - you will be giving a supplement...)
( **most hepatic dogs need 2-4 small feedings per day)
So - FEED at least 3 x per day... Small meals

Soy protein and milk proteins are helpful..

**Hamburger, Drained  ( or another meat is fine) chicken, turkey, lamb,

~No liver or organ meats...
NEVER any egg yokes...

Boiled eggs without the yokes..
Unprocessed BROWN Rice..  or White rice...
```mixed daily with some cottage cheese or "soy" plain yogurt.
YOU don't have to use soy or goat milk but it is the best!
