Question
QUESTION: My yorkie had his first bout w/pancreatitis in Dec.2008. He was in hospital for several days. He was put in the hospital again Mar.20, 2009 for pancreatitis again. The vet says his Bun and Crea, Alkp,Amyl,Lipa were high which could indicate Kidney problems. He came home 3-21 because he was doing well. He is on Metronidazole for 5days.How can I keep this from recurring again. I feed him Pet Promise by Dr. Weil. I hate seeing him suffer. I just want him to be healthy again. He also breathes heavy when he is resting or sleeping. I was told it was allergies. I really don't think that is what it is. Please help...any information would be greatly appreciated.

Diana

ANSWER: Oh Boy Diana, I would love to help you two make some changes...
Ok, No snacks - only good grain free food/  Here is one you can make at home - you buy the mix and you add some low fat fresh meat / Lightly cooked.
The product is called SoJo dog food:

VERY close to home made....see here:

The pancreatitis is related to high fat content.  Did you give him table foods or pig ears often?  The pigs ears have way too much fat... FYI...
If you place him on a lower fat diet with less Fillers he will be well again.   ( oh, and some NuVET supplements, too)

Here is what I would do:

1. buy some turkey or chicken -  both will be fine:  Cook up the meat and add it to some SoJO grain free dog mix.
SoJo is almost cooking from scratch:
**buy the grain free SoJO and add fresh Lightly browned lean meats.

<<< here is the link for SoJO : they will ship right to your door/ free shipping> >>>>

This is a wonderful food for a lifetime of health...

Also, give 1 NuVET wafer per day / A must when you do home-cooking / this will also help with digestion.
NuVET helps all the body's systems...

BEST wishes with the SoJO and the NuVET wafers...

Let me know if you have any question on the SoJo feeding and amounts for your baby....

Oh, the Bun and other may be high because of the infection, too.
The metronidazold should be helpful with the infection.

QUESTION: Hi..Thank you for responding so quickly.
No pigs ears have been fed. I usually give him baby carrots/frozen peas or small apple bites as a treat.
He has been on Pet Promise which I buy at the health food store. Right now he is eating ID from science diet which was prescribe due to his condition.
Do I stop feeding him all of the above and start him on Sojo? Or do I feed in conjunction with above food?
Is this ground turkey/chicken or ground turkey breast/chicken breast?
How much do I feed him? He is 7.7lbs.

Thank you for all your help---
Diana

P.s. What about his breathing? He looks uncomfortable.
Do you think it is allergy related?

Answer
Hard to say - some doggies do get breathing troubles from an upset belly.... Or, they can develop doggie asthma too.... ( yes, it could be allergy related/  If you try the NuVET Program - it helps with allergies)
Digestion troubles can relate to rapid breathing because the dog is uncomfortable.

Sorry, wish I could help you more.
