Molly the 4 year old blue heeler

Question
Molly, my blue heeler,  has had bad breath for over a year, but she has a cracked tooth after being kicked by a cow so it may not be relevant to her weight loss.   I am mostly concerned about the weight loss after being spayed. And she has unbelievably bad gas on a daily basis. Her appetite is fine and she has been wormed.   She roams around out side during the day but comes in at night. She seems to see fine and does have frequent urination. No accidents ever. My first concern was diabetes. She plays and seems healthy but is very thin since being spayed.

Answer
To address all of Molly's symptoms the most effectively and simultaneously, I would suggest looking at her nutrition. If you don't already have her on a grain free diet, I would look for one, and would also suggest finding a pre-prepared frozen raw diet if you can find one and give her at least half (working her up to that amount over a period of about 2 weeks) raw to half grain free dry.  If you can't find a raw food, find a good enzyme and pro-biotic supplement to ad to the grain free dry.  I think that this will take care of the majority of her issues.

By the way, spaying cuts a dogs metabolism in half, so she will need less food to maintain proper weight. If she listens to her body, she may cut down the amount that she eats on her own. If she continues to loose weight after changing her diet, have her checked out for diabetes by your vet. There is a dry food called Nutrisca from the Dogs Well company that is not only grain free, but has been certified low glycemic by the Glycemic Institute. It plus an enzyme supplement is the best next to raw for diabetes.

Keep me posted,
