Question
My cat Temptation has been licking himself in the crotch area for the past two days and he has been periodically going into his catbox even if he does not have to go to the bathroom. He has had a UTI before and the behavior was the same. I was wondeering if thereis any way to get rid of this without making a trip to the vet. Thank you for any help, I could really use it.

Answer
Hi Wendy,
It is important to determine that he does not have stones building as this can cause a cat serious urinary blockage as the stones build and could definitely cause a kitty his life if not treated.  Make sure you know if he has bacterial infection, or stones (struvite or oxalate)
This requires a catheter and a trip to the vet's office.
A homeopathic remedies used is often Cantharis. Belladonna is used for severe symptoms.
All homeopathics should not be touched and food or water given 15 minutes before or after.
To determine what is best for him his map of symptoms need to be shown,. Each remedy is different, for specific symptoms.
Chronic cases use calcarera carbonica. A homeopathic vet would know best course of action and best remedy.
If his urine is too alkaline 250 mg of cranberry extract has also shown success daily until balance is achieved by testing urine ph.

CoQ10 and Vit E and C have also been used as well.
However, not knowing whether he has stones or bacteria i would have that determined, get the crises under control and proceed to gingerly overhaul diet and keep him on natural therapies.

There are several things that can contribute to bladder infection, two of them are stress, and poor quality cat food. Most, if not all commercial cat foods are poor quality. There acid/alkaline balance contributes to this.  And when certain formulas call themselves "urinary tract health" they create a whole new problem in the health of the cat.
Many times UTI's are is the result of feeding dry commercial pet foods.
Once the crises is over, he may need a diet overhaul. (not a "
veterinarian" diet either, as they are also commercial diets).
Consult Dr Pitcairn's Natural Health for Dogs and Cats for dietary recommendations. If you cannot cook a feline balanced diet then no more dry food! Instinct or Prairie, Avoderm, Holistic Select are some canned options that you may want to discuss with a holistic vet if you absolutely cannot do home prepared diet.

Good luck!
