Question
Hello Marie, I was wondering if you could advise me on my 1.5 yo Shih Tzu would the vet says has colitis and wants me to switch her to Hills prescription diet Z/D. My baby has had diahrea on and off for months with blood in the stool. I prefer natural organic holistic options but I have tried even home cooking and she still gets sick. The vet says its because its the proteins that sometimes cause the problem. Are there any all natural hypoallergenic foods for dogs?
Thank you for your help.
Chris

Answer

Hi from Pet Nurse Mari
Chrissy, I am so sorry for your doggie kid! Colitis is a condition of inflammation of the intestines.  I sure don't know if it is Proteins or just Carbohydrates.  The Z/D may be your best bet at this point.  Is is a fair food that can help allow your dog's intestines to CALM down and reduce the swelling.  POOR KID.....

I would add two supplements to the Z/D - see links below:

- You can also add some cooked chicken ( just a few teaspoons per meal) and some peas or green beans / very small amounts .... To make the Z/D taste better because this stuff smells and tastes awful.

Add 1/2 a tablet/ wafer of NuVET per day / Will help to RE-build the immune system and help digestion and Allergy problems.
Also, some Flora Force / 1 per day / open and place the powder into the food 1 for the next 40 days.
Here are the links -

NuVET -  http://www.nuvet.com/81098
*** get the 60 count at 39.99  ( give order code 81098 and ASK for the 15% OFF discount on Auto ship)
60 count will last you 4 months if you only use 1/2 per day.... down the road you may want to increase to 1 full wafer per day.

Flora Force :

I wish you luck !  As the intestines start to reduce inflammation, in time you may start adding some homemade food to the Z/D.
Also, the NuVET will help to get this kid on track!!!!
The NuVET gives a 60 day money back guarantee.... NO risk
