Question
QUESTION: My 2 year old golden retreiver Scout has been vomiting yellow bile today and I noticed a few clots this afternoon.  She is currently on Novox and Poxycyline for a leg problem she is having and has been taking that since Friday.  Could this be causing her nausea?  Should I try and feed her some rice tonight? I hate to see her look so pitiful:(

Thanks,
Paula

ANSWER: Yes- YOU are welcome - Please let me know what happens with the Novox?
Keep me posted....
Marie Peppers /  Ask the Vet Nurse

Hi Paula, Please stop the Novox right away and call your Vet's office.  What is the diagnosis of her leg problem?  I have some more natural options than the Novox this is another name for the Generic Rimadyl.  This drug can have "many side effects" and can cause stomach troubles plus stomach bleeding.

Let me know if you want to try some supplements?
Also, ask your vet for something a little less harsh than the Novox.
( There are other things they can order for your dog)

Options:

To reduce pain and Swelling in the leg:

Here is what I refer to for pain and inflammation in dogs:

This is an option if you want to try something Natural:
Talk to you vet about more natural options:

I have some ideas for natural anti-inflammatory relief:
First off, go to your local vitamin/health store and get some Turmeric pills -

Turmeric Typical Dosage

A standardized extract of turmeric supplying 400 - 600 mg of curcumin can be taken three times per day in capsules or tablets for a large sized dog...
( or at least 2 capsules per day)
( *I would start him on 2 per day :)

Make sure you always serve this herb with "food"....
( it can upset the belly ---if not given with food ) ************

Turmeric can be found at many stores that carry vitamins and herbs for Humans.

Dogs take Turmeric all the time...
Turmeric can be taken long term.

NuJOINT supplements:

Also, Check out NuJoint Plus - This is a MUST for any dogs that have hip, bone or joint troubles.... http://www.nuvet.com/81098

QUESTION: Thanks for your quick response and concern Marie.  To be honest I am concerned with what the vet told me about Scout.  He seems to think it is either Lime's [sic] disease or cancer.  He wants me to bring her back after she finishes her medicine to be retested.  She is no longer limping and her leg seems to be fine now the only problem now seems to be with her stomach and I think that is the medicine.  I will try the turmeric and stop the novox immediately.  Should I take her back to the vet to be rechecked since her leg seems to be doing fine now?  I am just confused with his diagnosis.

Answer
I would see another vet for a 2nd opinion if the pain, swelling or discomfort continues.
Also, please give the NuJoint a try--- she may need to be on this long-term BUT*** it is all natural and very safe:
The Turmeric is great just give in small dosages as to not UPSET her belly --- always give with food.

good luck
Marie
