Question
Hi!  We live in the NW GA Mountain area and I have some plants in my yard that I've been able to identify but not find out if this specific plant is poisonous to my 1 1/2 yr. old Maltese (rescue 4 mo. ago).  The plants are: Chinese Holly, Japanese Privet (Ligustrum Waxleaf), Nudie Japanese Boxwood, Golden Eponymous and English Ivy.  She eats sticks like crazy!  We've tried breaking her of this and she has gotten better with time but still eats them on occasion. We also have a Bradford Pear Tree (onamental pear) that drops small dime sized berry type things that she LOVES to eat!  Called the vet about those and he said they're not dangerous for her.  He also said that not all Holly bushes are poisonous, and to look on line to identify ours.  I have looked all over the web to find out about the above mentioned plants and especially that type of Holly, but have not gotten clear answers.  Can you help?  Nellie has been acting very healthy but has been throwing up small amounts daily for the past 3 days.  Mostly food and small green pea looking things, maybe the pear berries?  They're more of a brown color.  Thanks in advance for your good advise.  Happy Holidays!

Answer
Hi Claudia,  I have some info for you on the Poison plants or non-poison plant.

First I wanted to state that your little Maltese may be in danger of an obstruction in the intestine.
PLEASE don't let her eat the sticks and twigs.
You may need to take this little devil out on a leash.
I also have a Maltese and know how they can be!

YOUR main problem here is possible intestinal blockages from the twigs.
I would like you to buy some PURE canned pumpkin, no sugar added.
Give her 1-2 teaspoons today and 1 tomorrow.
This will help any twigs or plant pieces to pass thru the intestines with a cushion of the Pumpkin.

My Maltese takes 1 NuVET wafer treat per day-  It's an Immune system booster and Allergy Blaster.
HELPS with Digestion and may help with the PICA --- Pica is eating things that you should not be eating.  Also, NuVET is an excellent product to prevent or lessen tear stains.
