Question
QUESTION: Is is okay to give Kaopectate to a cat for runny stools?  Also my vet gave me a bottle of liquid Panacur to worm my cats.  Does the diarrhea have to cease before I use the worm medicine or should I use it first?

They are eating dry food and are healthy other than the runs.  Sometimes it just drops from their butts a little.

They are rescued, spayed, neutered, UTD on shots and are inside but are allowed outside.  I live in the country with no close neighbors. I don't let them have table scraps.

Ages are from about 9 months to 13 years.  Not all have the runs, mainly the younger ones.  I feed them Friskies, Purina Cat Chow, and Purina Indoor Delights.  I mix these dry foods together. I have 20 rescued cats and I simply love them!!!

ANSWER: Hi Mary- How wonderful of you to rescue the cats!
Now, as for the loose stools - see if you can get everyone to take some Canned Pure Pumpkin/ ( any cat that you know is having loose poops)
About two teaspoons per cat per day of Pure canned pumpkin/ no added sugar.

For the worming, yes give them the panacur right away.
Follow the vet's directions ...

I am sure they will be better soon!

BEST wishes...

QUESTION: Marie,
Thank you very much for your quick response!!! Some of my cats like the pumpkin, which I happened to have on hand.  How can I give it to the ones that don't want it?  I put a little on my finger and placed some in the corner of Goldie's mouth. He didn't seem to hate it.  I'll keep trying. Also, will it hurt the cats that don't have diarrhea?

Another question for you.  I was advised by my vet to give my cats and kittens an amount of L-Lysine daily.  It seems that the last bunch of 5 abandoned kittens I rescued, have the herpes virus.  What would you say would be the best way to administer the L-Lysine?  I crushed the pills to powder form and I added it to chicken broth for them to drink.  Is it good to give them chicken broth?  Sometimes I make the fresh broth, but I've also used a canned broth.

And at last, another question.  My older cat, Jasmine, had a tumor removed from her left nasal passage about one month age.  She was so bad that she was very skinny and ragged looking.  After the surgery, I gave her some liquid called Cat Sure and she loved it.  It cost $8.00 a can and too expensive for me to buy.  Anyway, I started making her a combination of Cat Sure, baby rice cereal, egg, honey, and the L-Lysine which she loved and gained 1/2 pound.  I ran out of the Cat Sure and I now use a little Cat Milk instead.
Do you think this is good for her?  She is going to the vet tomorrow, because it looks like the tumor is growing inside her sinuses. The top of her nose is swollen and her breathing is obstructed.  I can't afford the major dollars to take her to the special surgeon, so depending on tomorrow, if I don't put her to sleep, I will need to find a way to help her be more comfortable.
Thank you very much for any advice.
I truly love my cats.
Mary

Answer
Hi - For the cats that don't like the l-Lysine pills - you can try the paste from Revival Health / see here:

http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/p/3074-Duralactin-Feline-L-Lysine.aspx

You can continue to try the L-Lysine in the broth.

Canned pure pumpkin is fine for all - it won't hurt anyone that takes it ...JUST can make them fat if they eat it every day.....

Oh, the Cat sure product can be found here- lower cost than what you paid...
I have been using this company for many years...
