Ball Python Skin problem

22 15:32:00

Question
I just got a ball python from a friend whose parents have been caring for it (but not too enthusiastically, I guess). The snake is in the middle of shedding, and his head and next few inches look good. The rest of his body is peeling in pieces, and in the last third of his body has some serious holes in the skin, with some scales hanging off and some slight bleeding. We are concerned! What can I do, and what may have caused it?

Answer
Hello Travis,

It sounds like the lower part of the tail can be a form of skin rot. This is a medical condition and should be looked at by a vet familiar with reptiles. They should be able the give your snake some antibiotic shots to help heal the problem.

As far as the shedding problem this is a result of the skin problem. This problem is causing stress on the snake and making it very uncomfortable.

Immediate care is needed for this snake.

Hope this helps, please let me know how things progress. You can stop by my site and sign up for the ball python planet forum. Here you can ask questions and get some help with your new pet..
