White Lipped Python - humidity

Question
Good morning. I recently purchased a white lipped CB python... she is gorgeous... northern brown/cream colored variety. Currently about 8 months old, 3 ft. in length residing in a 20 gal tank on about 1-2 inches of fir bark topped with a bit of Zoo Med Repti bark for aesthetic purposes only (the fir bark just looks like dirt). I'm having a hard time keeping the humidity level up. I mist her tank 2xs a day and the humidity goes up to where it should be 75-80% but when I get home from work it's only at about 40%. I covered 3/4 of the screen top with aluminum foil at the suggestion of a friend who is also into herps but the heat lamp seems to still dry out the tank. How can I keep the humidity at 75-80% constantly? Should I break down and purchase a reptile humidifier for $40-50?

Answer
Hello Tallie,

Reptile humidifiers are not very good. They break down fast. The best thing to do is buy a sheet a clear plastic and then drill several holes throughout it. The size of the sheet should be your tanks width and 2/3 the length. This will help retain the level. You may still need to mist in the tak once daily, but you should be checking on your snake at least once daily anyway.

Hope this helps,
Eric
