My wife and I have a beautiful common king snake,I was wondering if you can tell the sex without any probing?

Answer
It's possible, but really only by someone knowing what they are looking for. Basically, an adult males tail will have a slight bulge after the vent (ie. where it poops) and then the tail diameter will taper off sharply. A female's tail is a gradual tapering from the vent to the tip of the tail. However, probing is the only way to be sure.
Usually you can carry your pet into a reptile trade show and have someone there probe it for you for free.
