my baby albino corn snake stays burrowed

Question
I recently bought a baby albino corn snake from a trusted breeder. I've had him about a week now and he's fed once. Draco took the frozen/thawed pinkie mouse no problem even though he was fed live until I got him.

My viv has an under the tank heating pad and his temperatures are about 83 on the warm side and about 75 on the cool side. he has a climb, a water bowl that gets changed regularly, and a hide on the cool side.

My question is this: I know it's normal for them to burrow, but he's been burrowed for a couple of days now, and hasn't came up as far as I could tell. I checked on him to make sure he wasn't dead, but he's not. Also, he looks like he's about to shed, his eyes aren't the bright red they used to be and his skin is a little pale. I was wondering if I should worry about him staying burrowed for days on end.

Thank you for your time, as I realize you're a very busy person.

Answer
lol Not too busy thank goodness. :)

Baby corns are great about the transition to frozen. MUCH easier than ball pythons I'll tell you...

Your habitat sounds perfect. As far as him staying burrowed, if he is getting pale then he very well might be starting his shed cycle. His eyes should "white out" or develop a kind of white overlay to them, as the skin gets ready to be shed off. About 24 hours before he sheds, the eyes return to their normal color, then off it all comes. I've had babies stay under the water dish for days and they were perfectly fine. I think it's just an instinctual thing, as they are a prime source of food for birds and whatnot out in the midwest. He'll get the idea that no one is going to eat him in a bit, but it will take awhile to override. Do you have a little shed box for him? This can be a little box with a hole in it filled with damp paper towels or moss (I use moss but others use paper towels with same results) to help dampen him up so he sheds properly. I usually place the snake in there when they start turning pale, and with the hole they can choose to go in and out.
