Question
I took on the task of caring for my step children's corn snake when their mom went to basic training for the miitary and well everything has been good...this was in November....we have fed her three times now...two white feeder rats purchased from PETCO and she used the bathroom for the first two times....but this last time which was about a month ago we still have seen no feces....I do see a lump near the end of her body, but it just will not move...I am afraid to feed her again because of this WHAT CAN YOU SUGGEST FOR THIS ISSUE??

Second thing:  How often are they suppose to shed their skin...my step daughter said they had her for about 2 years and she said she has shed before...she is about 4 feet long....and she mostly lately has just stayed under her cave rock...she does come out and move and burrows under her aspen bedding and crawls on her "hot" rock but I am still worried...I just do not want her to be ill and me not know it and she passes...(THAT'S ALL I NEED---step mom killed our snake..lol)  PLEASE HELP ME...Trianne

Answer
If the snake has water available at all times, and a warm spot to digest it's food, then it's feces should eventually pass. However, it could have an infection near it's vent (where it poops) that could cause the feces to back up. If it's been like this for a while then I would suggest a trip to the vet.

As for the shedding, that's something that snakes do whenever they outgrow their skin. They should do it about ever 6-12 weeks or so. There's nothing you can do to make them shed so don't worry about that aspect.
