Ball Python losing scales

Question
Hi,
I have a 12 year old ball python thats losing individual scales, exposing the duller scales underneath. She's not losing the entire scale down to the flesh, just the brighter outer layer. The scales are flaking off one at a time as she moves around her cage, sticking to the glass as she stretches up and searches around for a way to escape. I've kept the cage disinfected with a diluted bleach solution. She's been getting injections since April for a pseudomonas infection that was unresponsive, although now it seems to have cleared up.(All told, throughout the 3 months she was on Baytril, Amakicain, Ceftaz, as well as Azithromycin for a RI that prompted the original vet visit). I thought the scale loss might be the beginnings of scale rot due to the high temperature and humidity she's had to help the antibiotics, so I treated her with polysporin and a povidone iodine cream for a week, and when she shed it seemed to clear up. However, this morning, a week after the shed, I noticed she's started losing scales again. My vet is at a loss as to what to do, and honestly, I've already spent several thousand dollars on her, and really can't afford  to go to a new vet and start all over. Temps and humidity are normal, substrate is paper towels. She's eating normally, and acts normal otherwise. No signs of scale rot, looks normal aside from a few dull scales where she's lost the outer layer. Any ideas? Could this have been caused by high heat and/or humidity? Thanks.

Answer
You and your vet are miles ahead of me on this one!  But!  I do know that Baytril will cause severe damage to the scales of pythons... Perhaps the two are related, perhaps not.  I quit using Baytril on Boids, it's great for colubrids but never worked well on my Pythons or Boas.  Works great in colubrids though.  That would be my only guess.  Good Luck!
