Question

harry the snake
Today i found that my red tailed boa had swelling under its head, also on inspection i found that it was making slight bubbling noises every few minutes , the snake is four feel long a good eater and recently shed, i set out to my local pet store where the is a keen snake enthusiast  who had a look cleaned out its mouth and told me it was not mouth rot, and it could be wood chip caught in it throat  , can you help ??

Answer
The bubbling sounds like a respiratory infection.  They can be very mild and linger forever in boids (boas/pythons).  I'd recommend a vet visit and if it is diagnosed as an RI ask for the drug Amikaisin (sic).  They vet may suggest Baytril and they are the professional but in my experience Baytril does not work well in boids, it's great in colubrids, but with boids not so much...
