Sick Snake

Question
For months it seems like my snake has had problems shedding, espcially around her head and eyes. I have a piece of coral in the cage for her to rub against if she needs to. Today she was acting weird and she had her mouth open and was drooling and making weird noises (which she has never done before)and it couldn't be from dehydration because she has plenty of fresh water in the cage for her. Do you maybe know what could be causing this?

Answer
Hi Kayla,

Ok so let me ask you, is it Coral from a visit to the beach or is it a fake ornamental item bought at the store? If it is from the ocean and it is something you collected or someone else did then there will be salt left on it. This could potentially lead to dehydration or other health problems.

The symptoms you mentioned to me however sound like a respiratory infection, commonly caused by improper temps and humidity levels within the tank. Check her mouth for bubbles. If you do not see any bubbles then you can fix the problem yourself by correcting the incorrect levels. If you do see bubbles you will need to see a vet. This indicates an advanced problem in which you need professional help.

Hope this helps,
