Corn snake death!

Question
Hi, I've had my corn snake for 8 years now and she has always been very healthy and a very good eater! Recently she stopped eating and when we offered her food she was interested but didn't eat. 2 months later and she still hasn't eaten! Everything else was healthy, she was very active and was drinking, pooping and still liked being handled and no fluid round the mouth or sneezing! The problem was that today she just suddenly started fitting or writhing around and then began holding her mouth wide open, struggling for breathe. Her mouth had a little blood in it and shortly after she died and a small lump appeared in her neck! Sorry for such a long account, I was just hoping if you could tell me anything. I really don't understand why such an apparently healthy snake should take such a turn! Thanks for your time and anything you can tell me would be much appreciated.

Answer
Hello Claire,

I apologize for your snake's death..  I have had one of my pythons do this once but it was a seizure because its system has shut down.

I honestly couldn't tell you what it exactly was unless getting an autopsy done.

But it sounds like to me it had a virus from its food or an endoparasite infection.

Or it might have had something lodged in its throat..

I hope this helps a little if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
