Large bloody mass wont retract?

Question
Everything I know about snakes I could say in 15 words or less. But I am now trying to care for a ball python about 1 1/2 ft. long, who is obviously not well. Here is what I know:
1. Appitite great. Eats live small mouse, once a week.
2. Had mites at one time but no longer does.
3. His past sheds were and still are absolutely awful.
4. His last 'bowel movement' this mass came out of him and didn't retract back. Neosporin was applied heavily daily for a week or so and it seemed to get 100% better.
5. He ate, pooped a few days later and now it has happened again. Why did it happen the first time? Why the second time? And most importantly, What can be done so this doesn't happen again?  Please keep in mind that I rescued this snake from a bad situation, I am scared terribly of snakes and the internet is my only way to reach out (vet care is not an option).  Please tell me anything you can. I don't have many options available to me.

Answer
Raise the humidity with a mist bottle 3X per day. Use coconut bark or cypress as a substrate. Do not worry about the inversion. If he continues to eat well, he will retract it on his own. Here is a link to a great care sheet: http://www.kingsnake.com/ballpythonguide/
