Question
Swelling - Right Eye
Hi, I have a Hogg Island Boa with Swelling on/near one eye.
I have attached a picture, swelling on one side of the face. The vets are very cautious and don't want to do anything owing to their fear of hurting the snake, as it's only a few months old. They are also very inexperienced with reptiles.
The swelling comes and goes. Each day is different - swelling down, swelling back up, etc. My brother-in-law doesn't believe that this is the result of sheading.
I have had snakes myself in the past: Red Tail Boa, Burmese Python, but none showed this type of problem.
I am inclined to believe that his snake requires anti-biotics, but the vets haven't used any.
The Photo shows some swelling. (this is the swelling that comes and goes on a daily basis).
I would appreciate any feedback
AnswerWell swelling can be caused by an infection or it could be caused by a physical issue (some defect inside the snakes body). As it comes and goes I'd lean toward the second ( a clogged duct or something). Of course the clog could be bacterial too... SO, I'd recommend a course of antibiotics just to see if it helps. With Boas, I like Amakacin (probably not spelled right). Your vet should be able to look up the dosage.
