Question
I have a 125 gallon, 72"x22"x24tall tank with a 11x17 under tank heater, a 150 watt red bulb heat lamp, a 100 watt ceramic heater and a 75 watt red bulb heat lamp, My temps for basking side to warm side ar approx 84, 78, 74 How can i increase this, I am ready to purchase my new red tail but still feel the temps are not correct. Is it because the heat sources are too far above the substrate?

Answer
Hey Justin,

You can buy a piece of plastic from home depot about 48 long x 22 wide. Then drill several holes in it a place on top. This will help retain the heat and moisture. Place the hot spot under where the plastic is not located. You could also consider buying an under tank heating pad that is half the length of the tank with a thermostat.

Hope this helps,
Eric
