Question
I own a beautiful 4 year old dumerils boa who has been unusually active for the past month or so and I can't figure out why! He has a clean, good size tank (it's 4' long by 2' wide and he is about five feet), an appropriate amount of heat, a couple of hiding places, fresh water, and eats regularly, to all appearances he's in perfect health. I tried moving his tank to a more secluded area so he wouldn't be disturbed by people walking by him all the time and I handle him at least every other day, but nothing seems to help! I've owned him for almost two years (I adopted him from an acquaintance who had no idea how to take care of him), and he has always been pretty sedate, but every time I look at him now he's wandering around or pushing at the top of his cage. I'm not even sure there's anything wrong with that, I was just wondering if the change in his behavior lately was anything to worry about. Anyway, thanks for your time and help!

Answer
Hi Anna,
To make this real short, snakes are weird. If you follow a good care sheet(and it sounds like you have your stuff together), I would not worry at all. If he has had a bad shed, I might consider raising the humidity a little or misting him throughout the day. 4 X 2 enclosure is fine, but I always go as big as possible for big snakes. Mine are 4 X 3 X 1. Again, I think he will settle down some in time.
