corn snake frostbite?

Question
I had to leave my corn snakes outside for about month in their cages, but without electricity. The weather became cold and rainy at one point and the next day I found that water had gotten into their cages. One of the snakes was in a 1/2 inch of water! She is fine. My male, on the other hand, has a brittle tail that looks like it is drying up and is going to fall off. Farther up his tail the color is gone and there are patches of like an iridescent white. Do you have any idea what this is, and what can I do for him? The snakes now have a heating pad and a light, and they both have eaten and shed since the "incidence".

Answer
Hello Stephanie,

The first thing is never leave you snakes outside. There is to great of a chance of cold weather and animals outside like raccoons who love to eat snakes.

He might lose his tail. Just keep an eye on it and if it starts to look tender and infected then you need to clean it up with some iodine and bacitracin. I hope this does not happen.

Good luck,
Eric
