Ball python wont eat.

Question
I inherited my daughter's ball python when she graduated from college and moved out of state. The python is 4 to 5 yrs old. He was hatched in captivity and has been fed thawed frozen mice. He has always been a finnicky eater. Last year he stopped eating in December and didn't start again until June. Then he ate a mouse every 3 to 4 days {with time out for shedding] until late November. It is now August, and he still hasn't eaten. He's shed twice this summer. He is active and appears to  have good  muscle tone. Last year my daughter tried fresh kill and a live mouse to get him started eating, but he ignored everything until June. Now it's been 8 months, and he hasn't had anything to eat. I have been trying to feed him about once a week since June. He now seems more interested in the mouse but still won't strike.  HELP.
Thanks,
Dennis

Answer
Dennis,
I'd get the snake to a vet. In the mean time, try live to spark his interest. I have never heard of a ball that went that long without eating and lived to tell about it. Up to 6 months, I wouldn't be flipping my lid, but something is wrong with your snake. If live prey doesn't work, please take him to a vet.
