Death of Snake

Question
My son and I had our corn snake for just under a year. He never had any health issued, shed well, ate pinkes just fine, progressed to fuzzies, no problem. No mites, no regurgitation, no aggression, absolutely no problems at all. We fed him last Weds. morning, Fri. eve i found him dead. I was devastated, shocked and really angry. I think we fed him a "bad mouse". By that I mean one that had been allowed to defrost and spoil and was refrozen and resold. I cannot think of anything else that would have caused him to die. We had him out Mon& Tues. fed him Weds. morning, changed his water as always, he was "doing his thing" all morning, just as always when we do the water change out, then Fri. evening, came home from work, and he was gone. Can a snake die from "food poisoning", what else could it have been. And yes I contacted the pet store regarding the fuzzies, let's just say they were less than helpful, but offered me a refund for my remaining Fuzzies ! ! Can you belive them. Any ideas as to what may have caused a health snake to suddenly die a day after feeding. Thanks so much.

Answer
My guess would be that if it was a bad food item he either wouldn't have eaten it to begin with or else would have regurgitated. Snakes have really strong stomach acid and can digest almost anything, so my feeling is that it was probably something else. As far as what exactly it was I can't really say since the snake didn't have any symptoms of an illness. The only way to know for sure is to have a vet do a necropsy on the snake. However, you'd have to have kept it refridgerated in the meantime.

Sorry for your loss.
