Royal/Ball Python

Question
I've had my little Ozzy for around 6 months. He's feeding regularly, getting more inquisitive and active every week, feeding very well and is very docile when he's out of the vivarium.

When we're feeding him, we usually take him out of the vivarium and place him in a shoebox with papertowel as substrate and leave him there for around 30 minutes while his feed defrosts, then present him with the mouse and he strikes then coils and swallows every time. The lady at the place we bought him instructed us that the breeder fed him this way and that we should continue to feed him this way.

I was just wondering if this is a common thing with Royal/Ball's or if it's possible to feed them in their vivarium?

Ofcourse he's doing well just now and I won't change what's working for us, all information I'm reading about this isn't really helping, LoL

Any help would be great! Cheers :o)

Answer
Hi Lyndsay
Everything you are doing is correct.  It is highly recommended that you feed your snakes in a seperate feeding box to prevent future agitation and agression come feeding time.  Snakes get into what I call a "frenzy" when feeding time approaches.  They may end up striking and biting you everytime you go into their cage because they think you are feeding them when actually you may not be at that time.  I actually do feed my own 10 snakes in their own cage and don't have any problems.  Except my large king I feed in a feeding box as she gets overly excited
:-)  Hope this helped and good luck.
