dry rough nose on snake

Question
We have a large nine year old Mexican Queen Snake.  For several months now he has has very rough dry skin on the entire tip of his nose.  Do you know what might cause this and how we can help him?  Thank you.

Answer
It sounds like he is rubbing his nose (commonly known as a nose-rub) against something in his cage. Treat it with neosporin for a week. If it continues to get raw, consider blacking out the inside of the enclosure. They tend to rub on anything that they can see out of.
