Question
QUESTION: my ghost corn snake has not eaten for a month. I keep offering him live baby rats and live adult mice but he doesn't even bother with them. There's been a live mouse in his big tank now for 2 weeks and sometimes they're under the same rock together chillaxin'. I have also noticed a couple scales of his kinda crusty, they're here and there not all in a big clump. do you think that has anything to do with him not eating? or do you think he's lonely and just wants a friend to keep him company?

ANSWER: Rebecca, you need to remove the mouse from the cage IMMEDIATELY.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!!!   NEVER!!!! Leave a rodent in the cage w/ your snake unattended.  You are lucky the mouse hasn't eaten the snake yet.  It could be those crusty scales are where the mouse has taken a nibble.

Was this snake eating before?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Yes, but he is sometimes fussy. He doesn't have very regular eating habits. I just don't understand whats wrong this time, he's not shedding, and i keep trying his regular favorites but he won't touch them. He ate last just after Christmas and that was just one mouse. And it was a month before that he ate, cause he was shedding. I feel like he's starving.

Answer
My corns haven't eaten since the end of November.  But, I have them cooling in my garage.  This is the time of the year that most corns cool and go off feed, BUT if you aren't cooling yours...  It's hard to say that nothing is wrong.  Watch him closely and don't offer anything for a week before trying again.
