cut on snake

I just purchased a baby mexican black king snake and recently got in in the mail. I noticed that down by his/her genital region there is an opening that looks like a large cut. I thought at first that this is maybe his rectal or genital area and that it is normal but now I'm not sure. Right above is a closed slit. I'm thinking that maybe the slit is the genital area and exposed looking part may be his rectum. It looks sort of gruesome and is always exposed and almost bloody looking. I just want to make sure he is not injured.

  This is most likely normal, but I would need to see a picture to be sure. It sounds like it could be his hemipenis. Attached is a link to google images.
