Question
QUESTION: Hi and thank you for taking my question.

I have a baby king snake that i have had for 2 months and she has eaten several pinkys (frozen) since i have had her .. recently i had my heater go out at my house and the temperature dropped to 30-40deg and the land lord couldn't fix it so i moved to a new place. her cage has a heating rock in it so i don't know if she went into hibernation or shock or something like that. she has stopped eating and she appears very week, she more or less shakes when i approach her. I'm not sure what this is or how to fix it. but she is hardly moving and I'm worried she might die.

if you have any idea what the weakness might be from plz let me know

thanks; Justin

ANSWER: Justin, what is her cage temp now?  Has that problem been fixed?  Heating "rocks" scare me, let's look for an undertank heater.  Does the snake still have good muscle tone of does she fell "mushy?"

QUESTION: thanks for your response.

Yes I moved out of my old house 3 days after the heat went, and the new place I'm in has a heat vent almost directly above her. With an average temp of 76deg, this is only the second day that i have been in the new house.

and yes she dose feel mushy.. I'm certain she has lost muscle tone.

Answer
Justin, mushy is bad.  In my experience w/ babies once they get "mushy" not much can be done.  It may be related to the temp drop but CA kings are usually pretty hardy when it comes to temps.  Sometimes w/ babies they just "go south" for no apparent reason.  I've had them die w/o eating, die DURING a meal, die right after a meal, and yes even die after they've eaten 3-4 times.  It kind of rolls off my back because I have literally raised hundreds of babies at a time before.

That doesn't help you much though does it.  If she's still active -moving in your hands, flicking her tongue, etc., it might be worth a trip to the vet, but if she's nearly lifeless you'd probably be better off saving the $ for a new one...  Man that sounds bad but I'm trying to be truthful.
