Green Tree Python/Gecko Cohabitation

Question
We recently purchased a 16 month Green Tree Python and we were told that many people set up vivariums with geckos along with the GTP. So, we purchased a juvenile crested gecko as well and they are now cohabiting. We are wondering if this a good idea. We talked to a couple different breeders (of both GTPs and crested geckos) at a recent reptile show and they said it would be fine. But we just wanted to double-check because we heard that sometimes young GTPs eat lizards.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
All I can give you is my opinion. I have never heard of putting 2 different species together being a good idea. Even if they are not a natural food source for the snake, who is to say that the snake does not get board and kill the gecko just because it can? I can see where it might work most of the time. GTPs will stay in the trees 95% of the time and the gecko will be on the ground. However, you are till taking a huge risk when compared to no risk by keeping the animals separated.
