QuestionQUESTION: ok ive never owned a snake b4 so ive done a ton of research. i know i should fees a meal that is equal in size as the biggest part of the smake..but.... i have a VERY picky ball. he wont eat f/t mice, ive tried to no avail. so i gave in and gave him live. mice arnt as agressive as rats so i would like to continue with these. my question is can 2 mice be just as good as one rat or should i suck it up and give him rats?
i came upon this snake in an abandoned appartment that had been vacent for the better part of 6 months, he was severly dehydrated but seems to be doing MUCH better now. so i have no way of knowing how old he is but i can tell you that he will NOT let me touch him and is still quite snappy. hes roughly 4.5-5 feet in length and id say about 5 inches around at the biggest part of his body. (i know a little on the slim side but we're working on that.)
let me know what you think, thankx

ANSWER: I don't think rats are really that much more aggressive than mice. And at 4.5-5 feet I'd think you should be feeding more like 6 mice if the snake is really that long. My 2.5-3 footers eat Large rats... It really doesn't matter exactly what it eats as long as it eats enough.
As to the handling issue, get a heavy pair of garden gloves and just start handling it. Eventually it will learn you are not a threat.

QUESTION: large rats are BIG! even though his or her middle is not that big around will it still be ok to feed large rats?
like i said ive never hada snake b4 so any help i am totaly greatful for:)
AnswerOK, something is not adding up! Either your BALL python isn't a ball, or it's not 4.5-5 feet. I don't think any ball that is 4.5 feet would be any less big around than a large rat (even if it hadn't eaten in a while). Are you sure it's a ball (and not a burmese or some other species) and are you sure it's actually 4.5 feet?
