Corn Snakes Behavior

Question
I have owned two corn snakes for about 2.5 years now- one orange and one white.  They are approx. 3 years old.  I've never had any issues with them and their health until now.  The orange one is acting strange.  He races around the cage at night, out of character for him.  I think he's literally been awake for a month now.  In addition to his behavior, both of them haven't been eating along with their normal patterns. One night they tore up everything in the cage (non aggressive with each other) and the orange one was chasing the white one at an extremely fast speed.  WE are concerned and just wonder if this is normal behavior.  Would you have any ideas?

Answer
Hi Justin,

Around this time of year is corn snake breeding season and your corns' behaviors is nothing abnormal. the not eating is also completely normal and you shouldn't worry about it.

you can try feeding smaller prey items and this might encourage them to eat but at breeding season, corn snakes only have one thing on their mind and it has nothing to do with food!

the non feeding may continue for another few months so be prepared. if your corn snakes start to lose weight the innapetance may be due to something else and in this case something may need to be done. this is unlikely but do keep an eye on your snakes weight.

i hope this helps,

Andy
