Question
QUESTION: good day,

i wrote awhile back about a new snake we have. i am sorry but i do not remember who i wrote to. please bear with me, when i had explained that the snake who we have now named juju got caught under the fridge by the person we got him from he had some bad scratches on his back, we bathe him and try to clean it up and put triple antibiotic cream on it as suggested in my last email, my boyfriend is a vet but i would like a second option. juju 's cuts have now become wet and look like puss so we wondered if when he was under the fridge if it was hot and he got burnt, he does not think that juju has any other skin problems. his wounds do look like when u get a bad burn and skin starts to fall away and looks wet. i am wonder if there is any thing else we can try with him or if we should keep cleaning the wounds and wait for him to shed and see what happens. your response will be appreciated. thanking you in advance.

regards,
tricia

ANSWER: The pus sounds like we he has an infection. I might think about taking him to a vet.

QUESTION: good day again,

my boyfriend is a vet that's why he's been tryin to keep the cuts clean and put the antibiotic cream on him.....which doesn't seem to be working.is there any other suggestions besides triple antibiotic i can use, because th wounds smell and when bathe him he seems to be in a bit of pain when the water touches the bear skin which i understand.juju is the newest member and we would just like it to heal over. do you think if when he sheds it might help with the healing?

thanks,
tricia

ANSWER: Shedding will not help with healing. I have also had snakes that had this sort of injury. I suggest an exotic animal vet. The infection could be internal as well and a couple shots of antibiotics could speed healing.

QUESTION: he already give him antibiotics =( but i will do some reading up on the books he has at home because he treats exotic animals as well....i thank you very much for your help though by the way of the topic of snakes.....how can you tell if a pair of lovebirds is male and female without doin DNA tests???? i would like to get a pair but a friend of mine has a pair but it's 2 males

Answer
I am only a snake expert, so I have no idea on the birds. What is he using to treat the cuts?  Lincomycin seems to be well tolerated in snakes. I usually use a subcutaneous injection in the lower 1/3 of the body (not in muscle mass, but just under the skin).
