QuestionHi, i have a red tail boa. there is small parasites crawling on her skin and under her scales, i would imagine they are mites, what do i do about this? Is there a way that i can get rid of them or do i have to take her to a vet?
AnswerThere are topical things you can get to rid the snake of them. Natural Chemistry is one I use at work, but Ivermectin is what is usually the most effective. This can be applied topically, orally, or intravenously. There is also Sevin dust, but I am not sure where you would get this. Ivermectin is available for ordering online, but I don't know prices. Most of the time treating with an over the counter mite spray is enough. Make sure to bleach the cage and either bake or bleach anything else in there. Change to newspaper until the mites are gone.
