Baby Ball Python Traveling from Alaska

Question
Hello.  I had a friend just leave Cordova, Alaska with her little female Ball Python.  She had warm packs in with her, and warned the airlines personnel that "Ace" needed to be kept warm at all times and never left on the tarmac during flight changes.  When my friend arrived at her destination, her little Ace was tightly curled into a ball and appeared to be dead.  My friend thought that she felt and saw a little bit of movement and immediately took Ace and put her in her heated home, adding some other heat packs with her.  As of yet, it doesn't appear to be good.  The question I have is this:  Does Ball Python go into a hibernation state, possibly like our Alaskan Bears, dropping their heart rates, etc.  Please answer as soon as possible and thank you in advance for any help or information you may provide.

Answer
Hi there. Ball pythons can go into hibernation, sounds like this snake needs to see a vet as if they hibernate and the temperature is brought up too suddenly it can be dangerous. Try to get the airline to pay the vets bill since it happened during shipping. In the mean time raise the temperatures by about 5 degrees in the vivarium every day starting off at a low temperature, the best way to do that is with a thermostat and dont feed until this snake is back to normal. Keep stress to a minimum and dont handle as well. Normally most snakes should be able to cope with going on a flight thats why it would be a good idea to get the snake checked over for any underlying illnesses. I hope its nothing and the snake recovers. Take care
