Question
Hello We've had our young, 18 inch or so, california kingsnake for about a week. in this time, the day we brought it home was his feeding day and he ate. we haven't held it yet, then today, which was a week later, we fed him again. A couple hours after eating, he shedded!! The question i had was concerning how long we should wait to handle him - we haven't got to yet, so we are very anxious to do so - how long should we wait after shedding to handle him??

Answer
Hi April  Since he just ate again you should wait at least 3 days to hold him since he needs to digest the meal and won't regurgitate it.  On the other hand, you are more than able to hold him after he sheds.  But in this case he ate and THEN shedded :-)  Sounds like he is healthly young snake.  Take care and thanks for writing.
