Can my guinea pig really be pregnant?!

Question
QUESTION: i have a 4 year old guinea pig, and i've noticed her getting very large around her belly, she is eating fine and is physically fine in herself. her stomach is firm.
i took her to the vets and they said she was pregnant. but she hasn't been with a male guinea pig for at least 3 years. is there any other thing it could be?
thank you!

ANSWER: That is a bit weird? The only thing that i could thing about is if she is with other females, if one of them might actually be a male? Try sexing your guinea pigs again and see if they are all females, if that is the case!
Here is a link on sexing guinea pigs:

This is a great site to check!

Also if you have any boars in other cages maybe they escaped and got to the female and bred her?

If in this case she is pregnant i would be very worried, if she is 4 years old and hasnt been bred before the time she was 6 months old then her pelvic bone has been closed and she will have a very difficult time passing the babies on through! So i would take her to another vet that is cavy savvy and get a second opinion if she is pregnant!

If she is pregnant make sure you are giving her tons of fresh alfalfa hay, good quality pellets, and fresh foods rich in vitamin C.

Thank you and remember you can ask me any questions!

P.S. If you can feel around in her stomach and you can feel lumps, like skeletons then she probably is pregnant, also feel for movement and kicking!

QUESTION: i definitely have two females and one male, in separate cages. i don't seem to feel anything in her stomach but the vet thought she could feel legs. it is impossible for the male to escape from his cage to get to her. she also has very thin hair on the sides of her stomach. could she have a tumor? or something like that?

Answer
It could be a tumor! I would call the vet and ask them if this is a possiblity since there is no way she could be pregnant!
Try calling the vet and they will advise you from there!
Thanks for asking, feel free to ask again!
