Question
hii have a female and a male guinea. the girl is pregnant and the babies have been kicking around 3/4 weeks now.how long till they are born. i am keeping a eye on her 12 hours a day and my fiance is doing the other 12 as she was suppposed to be a boy is at a young age. the male will be there to help her through birth but as soon as they are clean he has his own cage to go to now.i have read they should be ok past the age of 12 weeks at giving birth but am not sure. the babies head is right at the pelvis bone and they are being born head first so no risk or breach birth. i know this because i know how to do internal examinations.she has only had one because there is a risk of damamging the babies. could you please tell me how far along you think she might be?and how long has she got to go?

Answer
Usually the best breeding age is around 5-6 months. You need to remove the male asap though. If he is in there when she gives birth, he will impregnate her again. She can go into heat right after birth and will be backbred.

from guinealynx:

"Since most sows will have an estrus (a time when they can become pregnant) from 2 to 15 hours immediately after giving birth, remove any boar from the cage as the delivery date approaches to prevent back-to-back pregnancies."

You can put him into the other cage right away. I wouldn't handle her. It will stress her out.

The babies can still get stuck or she can have complications. They are born with fur and ready to run.

If you can feel them kicking, it shouldn't be too long though. She may be waiting for you or your fiance to not be watching. I'd leave her alone in a hidey house for awhile.
