How long does it take 2 piggies to settle together

I have two male guinea pigs, about 7 months and 2 months old who have been in the same cage for almost two weeks now, the older one is still rumble-strutting (more so after a clean out) and tries to mount the other one, I think it is more to do with dominance as he never bites.  I have tried the Vicks/menthol method which works for a short time, there are times when they seem to get on and even chase each other as if in play. The younger one has tried to do these things but gives up after a minute or two. Can you tell me how long it should take for them to settle to each other? Separation is not really an option due to space and I would hate to part with any of them. Any help would be very much appreciated

The good thing is that they are not hurting each other, and they are doing exactly what you said they are doing, which is establishing dominance.

While there is no physical hurt happening you need not worry as the behaviour is totally normal and should settle down within the next week or so.
