Hi!

I am in 4-h and am doing a demonstration on the in breeding of abyssinian guinea pigs. If you could please give me any information you have on this subject, it would be greatly appreciated! thanx!

                       Breeding:

1. The guinea pig gestation period is 60 days.

2. A sow that has her first litter usually has 1-2 pups.

3. Baby guinea pigs are called pups.

4. Pregnat guinea pigs are called sows.

5. The last two weeks of pregnancy you can see and feel movement.

6. Guinea pigs can have up to 8 babies!

7. The first sign of pregnancy is usually eatting and drinking constantly.

8. Toxsemia is a popular sickness that pregnat guinea pigs get.

9. Some signs of Toxsemia are: Not eatting or drinking & she will squeal in pain when she uses the bathroom.

10. You should breed your guinea pig befor the guinea pig is 5 months old.

11. Labor takes about 45 minutes it can take longer.

12. Guinea pigs usually have there babies at night or early in the morning.
