How do I keep my widow piggy from becoming depressed?

21 14:12:50

Question
Hey, my guinea pig was raised from day one with a companion piggy (also female). They never left one another's side. Well, companion piggy just passed away at age two, and my live piggy doesn't seem to understand. While her dead companion lay in the cage, she stayed by her side and kept nuzzling her cold body. When I separated the dead pig from my live one, she struggled until I let her go back to my dead pig's body. We finally got the dead one buried, but my "Widow pig" hasn't been the same. She's so much more timid, and she keeps searching for her companion. She's actually saying "no" to hay, and she NEVER turns down food. Do you know of any ways I could help her deal with it better? I really want to keep her moral up so I don't lose her too! Thanks for your time.
Katherine :)

Answer
Hi Katherine

Firstly, I am very sorry for your loss.

Sometimes a surviving piggy takes the death of a cage-mate very badly.

The best way to keep her spirit's up is to get her a new friend so she has company. In the mean time, spend as much times as you can with her.
