constipated?

Question
Hi Andy, I brought my gp to the vet yesterday as he's gone off his food, dried and veggies and is only eating very small amounts of fresh grass, and hasn't pooed for a week.  The vet examined him and said he seemed to be constipated and advised laxative and also gave him antibiotics for a week.  He didnt have a temperature but he wanted him to have them just in case.  well i was checking by gp nether regions to see if he'd had any movement as there was nothing in is cage and I noticed that at back about 1-2"above his genetals was a brownish reddish area about 1cm round, looked like a deflated blood blister.  just wondering if this is the thing thats making him go off his food, or if its some sort of mite or lice infestation. your advice would be appreciated, many thanks

Answer
Hi Mary

There's every chance that this is making him go off his food, especially if its an infection. The anti-biotics should deal with this. Perhaps you could tell me which anti-biotics/laxatives were prescribed and tell me how the patient is this morning. This will give me a better idea on what to tell you.
