orphaned,mutalated baby cavie

My daughters guinea pig just had 4 baby pigs on April 27. We've been checking on them to make sure they're alright. Today, 5 days later, she found that the mom had just chewed off a babies front foot and it looked like she had laid on it. The baby is still alive, but not doing very well. Can you tell me how to care for this little tyke if shes not going to? Also, she had a half a bowl of food [pellets] so she wasn't hungry! What would cause her to do such a thing??

Hi Judy
I am not really up on birthing issues but it may be that this little one had some defect or perhaps mom thinks she cannot look after so many babies.
If the baby is in pain and looks like she wont make it then the kindest thing to do is take her to a vet to be put to sleep
