Scratching/Sores

Question
Hi. The other night during lap time I noticed that my GP has sores under her fur from where she is scratching. She doesn't seem to scratch ALOT but compared to her cage mate, she does. I have had them for a while now and they seem healthy. There has been no change in her behavior or habits. They haven't been outside and haven't come in contact with any other animals. I wash my hands before and after holding them. I don't think she has mites or an infection. The sores are really red(like open wounds)and when she scratches those sensitive areas she screams b/c she has scratched them so much it hurts her. Is there anything I can put on those areas so they can heal and not be so itchy? I have put neosporin on her(she can only reach w/ her feet), but it doesn't help with the itching and they don't seem to be getting better.

Answer
Hi Jennifer

What from you describe, your piggy is suffering from a fungal infection.

I would recommend that you get your shampoo the piggy in any shampoo used to deal with human dandruff. Then you can apply "follicel" to treat the condition until it heals.
