it could be sick and has a brocken leg!

HELP!!my guinea pig is dieing and its whinning a bot but im so scared to see it die i cant take it to the vet.Also its leg is brocken because he jumped and fell of the table?I dont want it to die HELP!!

Hi Mary,

If your guinea pig seems to be in distress and physical pain, then you need to take him to vet ASAP. Find a specialist small animal or exotic pet vet if you can, or if not take him to your nearest emergency vet. Specialist vets are more successful at correctly diagnosing the illnesses in piggies, and their consultation fee is usually lower than a general vet's.

A broken leg needs a splint and painkillers, and if he is whimpering then there's obviously something else troubling him too. Possibly internal injury as a result of his fall, or something else entirely. Is he eating, drinking, pooping and urinating as normal? If not, then he's definitely feeling under the weather and it is your responsibility as a pet owner to get him the medical care he needs.

When we take on a pet - it is in sickness or in health. Guinea pigs suffer from similar illnesses to humans so whilst some vet fees can be a nightmare, their treatments are often quite affordable. Your piggy will not magically get better overnight and if he in a lot of pain, he may give up. I know finances can be tough, but leaving your piggy to die is not the act of a loving pet owner. If you really can't afford a vet, please hand your guinea pig over to a local small animal rescue who will pay for the necessary treatment and rehome him once he's healed.
