Question
I'm fortunate enough to have a justturning  5 weeks old female.   Unfortunately, her mother was too old to have babies so she died as well as the other babies a few days after birth.  Our baby has been spoiled by employees as the segregate mom's being bottled fed for four weeks.  She now drinks the kitty milk out of a dish (mixed with more water than the actual milk.  The question is how long do I continue to spoil her with the milk?  She will eat mix guinea pig (kaytee food), Timothy hay, and drink some water (with vitamin c).  However, she still seems to NEED that milk!  I don't want to spoil her--- but I feel sorry because she sucks on our fingers like she still needs it, cries for it, and didn't have her own mommy.  As well, I just read on your site that alpha hay is better for babies?   One last question,  when can I start introducing leafy greens and fruits? I know to avoid stomach upset it needs to be done slowly. I just didn't know it which age was the typical.  Thanks for helping me with our new baby "Butterscotch."

Answer
You can start giving her fruits and veggies now. Slowly start giving her more dry food and less and less of the milk each day. I think that is how the moms do it. Alphalpha hay is good for babies being because it acts as a laxitive to encourage the bodily functions.
