breathing and biting

Question
Hi Kristen, I have two female guinea pigs.  Cuddles is big.  She seems to control the cage.  Anyway, when we hold her she bites us.  My children don't want to hold her anymore. But my husband and I keep on holding her.  When you pet her she is ok for alittle while and then she will just turn around and bite.  Is it a hint that she had enough?  Even when you feed her she seems very rough when she eats from us.

I have another question.  We have another guinea pig and her name is Snuggles.  She seems to breath funny.  As she breathes she seems to have a back and forth rock to her.  She is also tiny.  She seems to take a long time to grow.  I am just hopeing nothing is wrong with her. We had her now for about 2-3 months and she always breath like that.  She used to be shy to when we got her.  Now she has been playing more and she is very sweet.  You can hold her for hours.  Please let me know if this is normal with both guinea pigs.  Sorry so such a long letter.  Thank you,
JoAnn

Answer
ok, cuddles, is most likely fine, she just might wnat to be left alone and might not be sociable. She might just want to be left alone sometimes and that's fine. Try talking to her and petting her, and when she's good and doesn't bite give her a treat and talk gently. Snuggles, on the other hand, may just breathe like that. You may want a vet to check that out for you, just to make sure. She seems fine from what you described, Is it ragged breathing or just like a panting noise? Take her to the vet just to make sure, you can never be to sure about them.
